Dr. Amr Atef, PHD in Heritage and Museum Studies, Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, said that Dr. Zahi Hawass is the defender and the guardian of Egypt's artifacts and monuments.
Dr. Atef mentioned, during an interview with (Nile Cruise) program, that Dr. Zahi Hawass' new book "The Guardian: Days of Zahi Hawass" is an autobiography, highlighting his accomplishments in the field of archaeology.
He added that the book sheds light on Dr. Hawass' archaeological discoveries and the challenges he faced during excavation and restoration work.
He pointed out that the name of the book reflects the efforts of Dr. Zahi to guard and defend the artifacts when he was in charge of the antiquities department, and later as Minister of Antiquities.
He declared that Dr Hawass played an important role in enacting laws that stopped buying and selling artifacts, also ,due to his efforts many stolen monuments returned back to Egypt.
He said that Dr. Hawass popularized the Artifacts of Egypt, he helped people to understand the history of Egypt, and he encouraged kids and youth to read more of the Egyptian History and engaged the local community more in the archaeological sites.
