Professor Gamila Nasr, Head of Cardiology Department at the Egyptian Heart Association said that although fasting has different effects on heart patients depending on the state of the heart yet in most cases fasting can be dangerous for heart patients.
Prof. Gamila mentioned, during a phone conversation to (Cairo Local Time) program, that in normal cases fasting is beneficial for weight loss which is the reason for many diseases especially heart diseases.
She said that sometimes in many countries, fasting hours are so long, thus it will be very dangerous for heart patients to fast and stop taking their medicines for so long.
She advised those who suffer from headache, and low blood pressure during fasting to drink many quantities of water, and to delay the Suhur (Last Meal) and also to eat small meals from Iftar to Suhur and to eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid fast food.
