Chairman of the National Teams Committee of the Handball Federation Alaa el-Sayed stressed that the preparations for the upcoming 2021 world championship hosted by Egypt are great.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he welcomed the participating teams saying that Egypt has been planning for this event since 2018, adding that though the COVID19 has hindered many procedures, yet our team has kept on training. One of the plans is preparing the National team to play in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, but it was postponed, he said.
He asserted that some professional players have recently joined the National Team with our players, thus the team is almost complete.
Captain el-Sayed hopes that our team can go through this challenge as we are playing in an exceptional time due to the pandemic.The Egyptian team, he highlighted, occupies a distinguished place among the world teams. Though our best achievement was in 2001, yet in the last tournament in Denmark and Germany our team came back to play in the eighth grade as we have young, talented and strong players.
He shed light on the most important teams and players joining the championship such as: Denmark, Norway, France, and Croatia.
Egypt will host the championship on January 13-31 with participation of 32 teams for the first time, instead of 24 teams. The Egypt team will play against Chile on January 13 in the championship’s opening match.
