Frederika Meijer, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Egypt, said that women's and girls' needs are taken into account in Cop 27, because they are the most affected by climate change disasters.
Meijer mentioned, during an interview with Nile TV on the sidelines of COP 27, that the UNFPA aims at improving women's health and enhancing girls' education and training.
She pointed out that women are nearly half the population of Egypt and investing in their health and education is one of the goals of sustainable development .
Meijer noted that the UNFPA participates in COP 27 to advocate the special needs of women and present many initiatives to engage women in climate change action.
Finally, she declared that UNFPA works with the Ministry of Health and Population in programs for capacity building for girls, family planning and project financing .
