Expert of transportation and engineering Dr. Mohamed Alsadik Auf stressed that Egypt's aim is to transport its ports into a centre for global trade and logistics. The government has developed and renewed all ports to 400 million tons which have a positive effect on the economic life in Egypt, he said.
Shedding light on the latest visit by Minister of Transport Kamel Waziri to Port Said port where he inspected the terminal and followed up the progress of some of the development projects pursued by the port’s economic authority, he stated over the phone to (Cairo Local Time) that the ministry is working on executing a comprehensive plan to develop and raise the efficiency of Port Said container terminal, expand its activities and raise its competitive capabilities to cope with the modern developments.
He elaborated that the Egyptian target is to extend the total length of the ports of Safaga and Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Alexandria, Damietta and Port Said to be about 76 kilometres in order to become the most important and largest hub on the Red Sea that serves global trade.
Dr. Auf added that a total of 6 km-long breakwaters are under construction, adding that the ministry is also working on deepening shipping routes to increase port annual handling capacity.
He asserted that Egypt will have many benefits from being an international hub such as creating job opportunities for the citizens and facilitating the trade market to import and export easily.
He noted that the government is implementing a comprehensive plan to develop the maritime transport sector and all sea ports. Ain Sokhna enjoys a distinguished geographical location, he concluded, as its port is close to the industrial and logistical zone, which allows for the creation of an integrated area. The ports being developed include Safaga, Sokhna, Damietta, Alexandria, Old Port Said, and West Port Said, Auf declared.
(Cairo Local Time) is aired from Saturday to Thursday. This episode is presented by Amal Mokhtar.
