Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat stressed that the UN Climate Change Convention COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh is extremely powerful as it puts visions into the implementation cycle. Collaboration between the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector and all other sectors is a very pivotal pillar of our goal to fight climate change.
In an exclusive interview with Nile TV International on the sidelines of the conference Egypt is hosting on 6-18 November, the minister hailed breakthroughs that the conference has already made so far such as; agreements with several multinational companies for getting the best interest of clean energy for operation of mobile towers.
In the same regard, he added that displacement of the copper internet cables with fiber ones to reduce carbon emissions has been also agreed upon, in addition to agreements on electronic-waste (e-waste) aiming at eliminating waste electrical and electronic equipment.
He added it is high time for urgent action to upgrade the digital infrastructure of Sharm el-Sheikh, expand coverage of mobile network and fix broadband connection across the city to make the tourists satisfied and thrilled.
On cooperation among the government, civil society and private sector, he admitted the fact that COP27 aspires to build a digital Egypt which requires digitalization of government services in favor of its citizens and enhance means of creating job opportunities in the ICT sector.
