Water resources expert Dr. Nader Nour Eldin said that protecting migratory birds is essential for climate change. One of the impacts of climate change is its effect on biodiversity and wildlife of migratory birds and their annual flights in spring and autumn each year, he declared, stating that Egypt has taken many steps to protect migratory birds as the world has lost 5000 species especially from insects and butterflies.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he clarified that experts are exerting efforts to preserve them, most importantly integrating conservation programmes by numbering the birds, knowing their migration routes, making schedules, restoring and conserving their immigration roads, specifying the time of the trip with both its beginning and end, and providing them with food and rest areas, etc.
Hailing Egypt's initiative in providing a safe path for the migratory birds, he added that Egypt is preparing for the climate change conference COP27 due in next November. It will show our achievements in all aspects: how we protect our coasts from the rise of sea level, how we protect our soil from land degradation and desertification, and how we protect our food production and our food security, our water resources and energy and how to conserve biodiversity, he illustrated.
He assured that there is a coordination and collaboration among various ministries such as the ministries of environment, agriculture, water resources, tourism, electricity and energy, and of local governorate, all contribute together to protecting all species of biodiversity.
Dr. Nour Eldin mentioned some ways to preserve biological diversity: we should have good fertile soil to feed organisms to save them from dryness and droughts, and precipitation and rainfall. We should conserve the soil from evaporation and high temperatures which increase the concentration of pollutants to save them from water pollution, he argued, and we should make adaptation to new species of plants that can tolerate thirst and high temperature and at the same time give us more agricultural production
Finally, he highlighted the importance of achieving balance between technological and industrial progress, and the preservation of the environment. We adopt the agro-industrial ways of planning to cultivate commodities on technological bases and change the raw material into industrialized material that will increase our income, he concluded.
(Cairo Local Time) is aired from Saturday to Thursday. This episode is presented by Amal Mokhtar.
