Hamaqy: Quantum leap in transportation helps develop economy

Dr. Yomn Hamaqy stressed the paramount transportation hub President e-Sisi inaugurated at the Adly Mansour Central Station

Dr. Yomn Hamaqy, Professor of Economics at Ain Shams University, stressed the paramount transportation hub President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi inaugurated at the Adly Mansour Central Station, believing that it adds a lot to the development efforts in Egypt.

In a phone call with (Cairo Local Time), she said that the development in the transportation sector in Egypt is obvious, especially as we are moving to the New Administrative Capital that needs new means of transportation as to be linked to other parts of Egypt referring to the electric train station (Light Rail Transit), inaugurated also by the president, connecting Al Salam, 10th of Ramadan, and the New Administrative Capital.

Hamaqy noted that transportation can play a significant role in all economic activities in Egypt, pointing to negligence of linking the 10th of Ramadan city, as one of the strategic cities, to all parts of Egypt in which cost of transportation is reflected on the economic activities there.

She affirmed the importance of enhancing green transportation coping with sustainable development, believing it is an important message to the world that Egypt is presenting itself with a new visionary approach towards a better development. This is in addition to mega projects that helped a lot in enlarging choices and impacting the population densities in the country in both the short and the long term as the new means of transportations will encourage youth to move on, start and run small new businesses, she added.

Hamaqy also highlighted how Egypt can transfer technology taking into consideration the economic side and trying to cooperate with our scientific researchers in the Egyptian universities whose studies can play a significant role in increasing the local content and reducing the cost so that we can be a hub for Africa for the production of green transportation methods. She stressed that we cannot manage such advanced methods of transportation without training. For her part as a professor, she assumed that youth all over Egypt are eager to get such training and upgrade their skills. Professional training can be a significant step towards upgrading the skills of our workers and enable them to get more job opportunities, she illustrated.

Finally, the professor of economics pointed out the need to create more job opportunities in different fields such as the industrial field, the agricultural sector and information technology so as to invest in such transport infrastructure projects.
