Antiquities expert Dr. Mohamed Abdel Badei said that the archaeological mission operating in the Haridi region of Sohag has discovered a checkpoint and an observation point dating back to the era of King Ptolemy III, complementing excavations in the early 2000s that discovered parts of it.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he explained that the newly discovered temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis. It extends for a length of 33 meters with 14 meters wide and is located directly on the river Nile, thus it is used in supervising the pressure of the Nile, collecting taxes, securing ships, and monitoring traffic and navigation, he explained.
He added that there are more valuable discovered temples in Upper Egypt such as Luxor, Esna and Sheikh Hamad not to mention the statue of Queen Meritamun the daughter of King Ramses II in Akhmim.
