Prof. Fahmy reaffirms integral approach for economic growth

Commenting on President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi’s meeting with the Jordan King, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Professor of international relations Dr. Mohamed Fahmy stressed the importance of the leaders’ talks on several international and regional issues in addition to the ways of dealing with the impacts of the global economic crisis. 

Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he added that the pivotal topic in the international agenda nowadays is the conflict between Russia and Ukraine which has ramifications on the region and on the international relations, thus it is the essential time for these countries to coordinate regarding economic cooperation and ways of mitigating the impact of this conflict. 

Dr. Fahmy explained that to overcome the challenges and reduce the repercussions of this international situation, we have to find ways to offset the deficit that was caused due to the deficiency in agricultural products that we used to import from eastern Europe specifically Ukraine and Russia such as grains, wheat and corn in addition to livestock, poultry and meat production. We need to find alternative sources and producers in these sectors, he reassured.

He stated that Egypt has taken steps to overcome those challenges by coordinating and collaborating with other Arab nations. We have short-term objectives then medium and long-term objectives. In the short-term, he concluded, we need to diversify and look for other producers in the international market in Africa and Latin America though the cost would be higher due to transportation fees.
