Shedding light on the meeting held by President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi with the executive secretary of the UN for climate change ahead of Egypt’s hosting of COP 27 due in Sharm el Sheikh next November, expert of sustainable development Sayed Sabry highlighted that one of the main targets of the landmark summit COP 27 is to focus on the outcomes of the previous summit which took place in Glasgow UK to cooperate and coordinate comprehensively between all parties and Egypt.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he added that Egypt is qualified to host this summit as it is a very active negotiator in the talks of climate change and it has carried out many initiatives and programs on that issue. Moreover, it has been executing mega projects in renewable energy and sustainable transport such as the monorail and the electric train, other mega projects such as the national network of roads and integrated water resources projects using modern technologies for irrigation in addition to projects in the agriculture sector using smart technology.
He elaborated that Egypt has its role on the level of coordination with various countries whether industrial developed countries or developing ones in climate change policies. Egypt has a climate change strategy up to 2050 which is very genuine in dealing with different sectors to achieve sustainable development through a green economy pathway.
Dr. Sabry mentioned the threats and fears which the world faces from climate change. We should have commitments from the industrial countries, he urged, in order to meet their sustainable finance to combat climate change and also to make commitments regarding the reduction of emitted gases in their countries and face the lack of resources which is a sign of climate change.
He asked the private sector to cooperate with the public sector to carry out the projects on renewable energy, smart agriculture and water resources management in order to be able to save the world.
