Dr. Ahmed Nasser, President of the Association of African Sports Confederations UCSA, said that the national team has great pressure even before the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations have started because they are holding the African record as seven times champions and they would like to gain the eighth and break their own record.
In a phone call with (Cairo Local Time), Nasser mentioned that the Egyptian national team started its mission in the Cameroonian city of Garoua which was not as well equipped as Yaoundé whether the stadium or the accommodations in addition to the weather which was really hard. The team also faced tough circumstances concerning COVID-19 as they have to follow certain procedures. “We do not want to underestimate these elements,” he said.
The Egyptian team is now in the form to compete; the sports analyst said, hoping that Carlos Queiroz, the head coach of the Egypt national football team, takes into consideration the psychological state of the players who are under great pressure to win the championship.
Dr. Nasser supported Queiroz declaring that Egypt has a new coach with his own plan and strategy to play with. He pinpointed that the coach selected the best players whether they are stars or not. Carlos Queiroz is making a good mix so far; he said, adding that he has to deal with each and every match individually as it is a championship by itself.
He praised the Moroccan team describing it as a strong squad; adding that the Egyptian coach knows what he is doing. However, he stressed that every match they have to play very hard not only to win but also for our reputation and image. Mohamed Salah scored and provided an assist to lead Egypt to defeat Morocco 2-1 and secure a place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations
Egypt will come up against hosts Cameroon in the semi-finals on February 3 at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé.
