Professor of public health said that the presidential initiative for the early examination of the newborns to avoid impairment of hearing
Professor of public health Dr. Maysa Shawky said that the presidential initiative for the early examination of the newborns to avoid impairment of hearing elaborated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s great care for the health of millions of children.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), she explained that the 100 million health initiative program started several years ago. The first phase was the cure of Hepatitis C virus. The next phase was the non-communicable chronic diseases program such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, overweight and obesity; then followed the health screening for women targeting breast cancer and cancer. At a later stage, she added, the initiative focused on schoolchildren suffering from anemia and obesity then it dealt with blindness or visual acuity, and now comes treating auditory loss or deafness.
She assured that the early detection is of great importance to cure deafness for the sake of the child’s communication and mental development and to prevent the serious consequences that may happen. Hailing the Ministry of Health for having a program specifically tailored for early detection, she said that a medical record for children is added and the timing is very important as the mother couldn’t detect that before two or three months. The birth certificate has been updated and the auditory examination box has been included in it.
Dr. Shawky numbered the causes for impairment in the newborn babies: if the mother has taken medications without prescriptions, or there might be congenital anomalies, or infection in the hearing system or the eardrum. Yet the child can get back his hearing with early intervention.
She paid tribute to the presidential initiative as it covers also more than 5000 children from the immigrants without discrimination. She also praised the determination from the presidency for having a healthy nation and the determination for the completion of medical care offered to the people and the determination for early detection. According to the WHO the 100 million health initiative of Egypt is the largest worldwide.
