Archaeologist:Role of museums as means of cultural exchange

Alaa Bakeer, Archaeologist at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, said that museums represent a means of cultural exchange and cooperation among nations.

Bakeer mentioned, during an interview with (Nile Cruise) program, that Egypt has joined world nations in celebrating the International Museums Day on the 18th of May.

She pointed out that the day has been celebrated worldwide since 1977 with many events that raise awareness of the importance of museums in developing human understanding and enriching tolerance and peace.

She added that the ministry of antiquities has fulfilled great tasks to attract tourists during the past year despite the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

She reiterated that the ministry made different promotional videos that describe the history of Egypt and its marvellous archeological sites which made tourists keen on visiting Egypt.

Further, Bakeer declared that the ministry made many renovations in different museums and archaeological sites to make them suitable for people with disabilities as well as preparing documentaries with sign language.

She finally stressed that despite the coronavirus spread, Egypt succeeded in inaugurating the National Museum of Civilization, Sharm-El Sheikh Museum, Kafr El Sheikh Museum and two new museums at Cairo Airport .
