Ambassador Gamal Bayoumi, Former Assistant Foreign Minister said that the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will harm the water interests of Egypt and Sudan and will have drastic repercussions on international peace and security as well.
Amb. Bayoumi mentioned, during a phone conversation with (Arab Affairs) program, that failure in reaching an agreement concerning GERD will increase the tensions in Africa and mainly in the Horn of Africa region.
He added that Egypt urged the United Nations Security Council to intervene for a second time and to take action against Ethiopia's unilateral decisions concerning the Nile water.
Further, he pointed out that Ethiopia is not in need of this large quantity of water, because it depends on rains not irrigation in its agriculture, but it is using the dam to distract its citizens from its internal problems and show them that it is engaged in a foreign one.
He finally stressed his complete trust in the Egyptian diplomacy that succeeds in always facing all the challenges and defending the higher interests of Egypt.
(Arab Affairs) program is presented by Mona Moselhey.
