Taha:Berenice Frigate in Alex enhances Egypt's combat efficiency

Former Director of the Naval College General Commander Mahfouz Taha shed light on the latest Italian frigate (Berenice).

Former Director of the Naval College General Commander Mahfouz Taha shed light on the latest Italian frigate (Berenice) that arrived in Alexandria to join Egyptian Naval Forces, saying that obtaining such a state-of-the-art piece is considered a force multiplier to the combat capabilities of the Egyptian navy.

Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), he described Berenice as a very advanced frame design frigate which the NATO had chosen to be the main multi-purpose piece for its fleet. The Italian model such as Berenice and El Galala (which Egypt acquired several months ago), had been chosen also by the USA as it ordered around 20 frigates of that model in order to modernize its fleet, he declared.

General Taha praised the trend of modernizing the armed forces and the navy; a wise plan launched by President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi after assuming power 7 years ago. Obtaining this frigate has a great significance, he reassured, as it increases our combat capabilities and ensures security in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. We convince the western world of our role in restoring and re-stabilizing the region, he concluded.
