Nominated mayor of Bolingbrook Mary Alexander said that she ran for elections two years ago as a trustee of Bolingbrook suburb in Chicago, United States and she was able to win. As part of the process the mayor retired in July of 2020 so she was nominated to become the mayor as a replacement for him.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), she added that she ran for the position as she felt it is important to give back and be a part of the community she lives in. She underlined her keenness on making changes and being a part of that change, so she had to be a part of the effort to make a difference. That was the main reason for running in the political arena there, she said.
Alexander was also included in the list of the most 20 distinguished women around the world for the year 2021. She believes that the criteria for that selection are being multicultural and striving to be part of the community. She was proud to say that she gained the title on behalf of all Egyptian women.
She hailed the Egyptian women that decided to move forward into being leaders in their community and praised Minister of Immigration Dr. Nabila Makram for her efforts to link the expatriates with their homeland.
Mary Alexander stressed that her program is to serve people in diversity and sustainability and continue to make her society a financially sustainable community. On the Egyptian level, she is working with the local Consulate General to highlight Egypt and build a sister-city agreement with Cairo and Bolingbrook in Chicago which enhances people to go and visit Egypt in the near future as it is so important to call attention to our homeland culture.
She asserted that the Egyptian women are very capable of becoming leaders in any society as they are strong, multitasking and they proved that they can not only lead in political office but also attain their homes and families to achieve high goals. Alexander’s priority is to encourage the youth to show leadership, she concluded.
