Expert: Healthy lifestyle based on good nutrition

Nutrition expert Dr. Nahla Bakry said that it is very normal to feel hungry in cold weather and have cravings for sweets as the body needs more energy and more calories.

Nutrition expert Dr. Nahla Bakry said that it is very normal to feel hungry in cold weather and have cravings for sweets as the body needs more energy and more calories thus more food. The best way to combat these cravings, she asserted, is to eat more nutritious foods on a regular basis during the day, every three to five hours through a balanced meal containing healthy carbs, proteins, fruits, vegetables and yogurt.

Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), she shed light on how to differentiate between the two types of hunger: the actual feeling and a pseudo one. The physical or the real hunger when the stomach starts growling and one feels the tummy is empty and one hasn’t eaten for 5 hours. But if one feels hungry, the expert said, after a couple of hours from his last meal, which shows one didn’t eat the right food and it is an emotional hunger, the remedy for that is to get a little piece of dark chocolate or hot chocolate.

Meanwhile, if one didn’t eat enough, the body starts craving calories craft which means start craving sugars as they are the fastest form of energy to the body, she illustrated.

Dr. Bakry stated that the best food for concentration is that rich with Omega 3 vitamin which is abundant in fish, nuts, avocados, eggs, green leafy whole grains, and pure cocoa. She said that famous allergens are peanuts, lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance as well and she recommended the alternatives for both.

The nutrition expert recommended some pieces of advice to regain immunity whether pre-covid19 or post-covid19. There is a very simple remedy: in every meal or snack one should consume fruits and vegetables with the five colours red, white, green, orange and purple.
