Naser Nuredini, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning in the Republic of North Macedonia, said that all participants in COP 27 are talking about targets and the future. However, we need to be together if we want to have a sustainable future for our future generations.
Covering the activities of the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 27), Nile TV International senior correspondent interviewed Nuredini who hailed the participation of youth in the conference fighting for the future, pointing to the effect of the climate change witnessed by the whole world as wildfires and flash floods.
He also noted that such impacts will continue happening more frequently in the future affecting youth, assuming that it is the countries’ responsibility not only to make promises but also to go back home and then implement these ideas and laws, and invest in adaptation.
He stressed that it is all about financing, referring to the fact “Finance is the key” as mentioned by both President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi and U.S. Vice President Al Gore at the opening of the COP27 World Leaders Summit. Nuredini urged the international financial intuitions to support the private sector which plays a major role in investing in renewable energy, adding it has to be done hand in hand with the governments.
As a minister of environment, he attended the last three COPs. He believed that COP 27 is dealing with real work and how it is achieved by financing, hoping the developed countries agree and the international financial institutions help in financing when it comes to implementing these ideas and promises. He also asked for a meeting after 6 months to evaluate what has been actually carried out.
Nuredini hailed Egypt as a voice representing Africa, believing that COP 27 is highlighting the challenges Africa is facing now. He stressed that the black continent is much affected by climate change, giving an example of the immigration of people due to the daily elements missing as drinking water. The world has become so small, he said, adding that we can’t think only about the little place where we live.
Finally, the ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in COP27 expressed his admiration for Sharm el-Sheikh and the organization, assuming that the coming days will witness more people coming especially youth and civil societies to share their ideas.
The interview on the sidelines of the COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh is conducted by Nile TV International Senior Correspondent Tgahreed Hussein, President of the channel.
