Historian:100-year discovery of Tut's tomb promotes Egypt

Historian Samir Abbas marked the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun tomb in 1922

Historian Samir Abbas marked the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun tomb in 1922 when Lord Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon found the tomb of the young king.

Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), he revealed the hidden part of the story of the discovery where a young Egyptian 9-year-old boy was the main reason behind it; the story which has not been introduced by the colonial media at that time. The boy, Hussein, was responsible for providing and arranging the logistics of the drinking water to the workers. After four years of excavation, he was insisting to find the tomb which the artifacts talked about and thus he kept searching until he found it by chance when he was distributing water, and hence they made a hole in the sealed door and stepped into the room.

He highlighted the discovery as it is the very first tomb to be found intact. It is the smallest tomb in the Valley of the Kings with unfinished decorations. It has tremendous treasures that are considered the most paramount archaeological discovery in history until now. The collection comprises 1500 artifacts, of which many are covered with gold.

He added that the young king died at 19 years old. Archaeologists don’t know everything about his life. Moreover, his death is still a mystery and he hopes that by new technologies they can discover what happened through examining his mummy.

Abbas believes that there should be a special celebration for the 100-year discovery by making a significant documentary of King Tut and shooting a movie about his life and his father Akhenaten with huge production and affluent sponsors starring international movie stars. A film like that will promote Egypt worldwide, he assured.

(Breakfast Show) is aired daily. This episode is presented by Nermeen Abdel Rahman.
