Former Foreign Minister assistant Ambassador Gamal Bayoumi said that Egypt is celebrating the 33rd anniversary of regaining the town of Taba in South Sinai. The Egyptian army succeeded in October 1973 in liberating the Sinai Peninsula and then regaining Taba by diplomacy in 1989.
Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), he added that diplomacy is the other side of foreign policy and it is a very important tool to gain our rights by peaceful means. He hailed the victory of October 1973 that led Egypt to negotiate on Taba from a very strong position and thus Egypt didn’t lose even one centimetre of its land and we raised the Egyptian flag on this part of land.
He explained that Taba is only 600 metres, yet Egypt refused to quit it. We used all the means in order to prove the historical side of Taba that it is ours, he illustrated, we went to the Turkish archive and the British archive and we went every possible way to get every evidence that this part is ours. The ambassador assured that Egypt believes in peaceful negotiations as it is a peaceful country. He also thanked Dr. Mofeed Shehab for his significant role in the talks then.
