Expert: Egypt logistic outlet for Africa

Economic expert Hassan Shaaban highlighted that Cairo is seeking to double the Egyptian exports to the African continent to 10 billion USD

Economic expert Hassan Shaaban highlighted that Cairo is seeking to double the Egyptian exports to the African continent to 10 billion USD by the year 2025 as Egypt has been exerting lots of efforts to open new markets in Africa.

Over the phone to (Africa Today), he added that the new highways the government has been constructing such as Alexandria-Cape Town Road shorten, facilitate and expand exports to the continent. The road that will cross through nine African countries, he reassured, is a milestone project that will achieve land connectivity and increase trade exchange with neighbouring African countries which leads to sustainable development.

He explained that Egypt has got lots of products that can be exported to the continent especially the land-locked countries, as Egypt is the logistic outlet for them. The pan-African, cross-border highway would shorten the arrival time of Egyptian goods to African markets, particularly agricultural products and give a major boost to economic exchange investments.

Dr. Shaaban stated that African countries are witnessing a boom in infrastructure now, thus our construction materials like cement, ceramics, steel etc. all are required there and we will benefit when we use the element of distance successfully. The African markets most seek canned foods, salt and fertilizers as well which Egypt can offer easily.

He called for the private sector to enter the African market more boldly as it is a main player in this field and to mobilize through the African countries where raw materials are produced. Concluding, he appealed for more efforts to establish our industries in Africa and relocate our factories there with the Egyptian flag on top.
