Shedding light on the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) due on 7-18 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Journalist Amira Sayed hailed that Egypt is the first Arab and African country to host such an event. In that respect, she stressed the importance of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri’s recent visit to Germany on 18-20 February to participate in the 58th Munich Security Conference to represent Egypt ahead of the COP27 summit.
Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), she added that Egypt has always enhanced the international efforts related to climate change and activated agreements seeking to curb the emissions and its severe impact.
She elaborated that climate change is a global and security challenge. Though Egypt has only 6.0 % of the total emissions of the world, yet it bears the responsibility towards the whole world and tries to find solutions as we are all facing the same danger, she added.
Sayed also stated that the dangers of climate change extend to each and every country, as many countries now have climate refugees for example. Supporting her point, she deplored the direct impact of climate change on water security as well.
She continued that there are climate diplomacy talks as the US special envoy for climate started his visit to Egypt to show the future of international climate action before COP27. Climate change is discussed at the same table with illegal immigrations, peace, terrorism, security, etc…, she elaborated, admitting the fact that they are all main global challenges facing the whole world.
Sayed has also shed light on the Palestinian cause, saying that the Arabs have never forgotten it. The Arab League has called upon the international community to put serious pressure on Israeli occupation to stop the aggression and daily violations of the most basic rights the Palestinian people, she concluded.
