Omar asserts Egyptian-Algerian unequivocal support on common issues

Former Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, stressed the unique relations between the two countries for decades

In the light of the Algerian President’s two-day official visit recently to Egypt, Ambassador Mona Omar, Former Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, stressed the unique relations between the two countries for decades. Egypt plays a vital role in the Arab region and backs its unity as in Libya, Tunisia and Palestine which the Egyptian leadership always seeks to help their governments and people achieve peace and stability, she stated.

During a phone interview on (Cairo Local Time), she elaborated that the two countries are super members of the African Union and share in common many aspects such as trade, politics and culture. “Both have an Arab and African dimension”, she declared, that is proven in their stance against many daunting challenges as terrorism. In the same respect, she referred to their bilateral concern over the Sahel-Sahara region.

Commenting on a joint press conference held in Cairo after the meeting between President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi and his counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, she stressed the importance of their pledge to reach new horizons of partnership and cooperation in investment, especially in light of the two countries’ production of natural gas.

Commenting on Algerian role in supporting Egypt in relation to the file of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, she asserted that it is so unequivocal and that their foreign ministries exchanged so many visits. In that respect, she shed light on the recent one paid by Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra to Cairo last week for talks on Egypt’s water rights as Algeria has good relations with Ethiopia and Sudan.
