Ambassador Mohamed El Shazly hails the call for an African strategy to eliminate the danger of terrorism. He said that combating terrorism needs regional and international cooperation. You cannot protect one country if the whole region isn’t protected, therefore forming international fronts against this scourge that affects the whole world is essential to achieve victory in this war, he stated.

Over the phone to (Africa Today), he added that Egypt has taken pragmatic and practical steps in combating terrorism. Egypt has been elected as the head of the African Council for Intelligence and Security in Africa and President Abd El Fattah e-Sisi hosted a meeting in Cairo, he stated, noting that this increases the awareness of the danger of terrorism and protects our people.

He elaborated that we need more and more developments as a great number of recruits of terrorists are dissolute young people who don’t have jobs or futures. Hence, he urged that we have to offer them a job so as not to resort to terror.

Further, he explained that terrorism and economic hardship are intertwined. Poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, racism, and religious extremism, all are the soil that breeds terrorists.

He mentioned the role of the African union in formulating the joint action against common threats to the African continent and called for consolidating our efforts in order to stop the resource of terrorism.
