Wagih: Al Azhar great beacon to maintain sustainable development

Professor of international relations Dr. Hassan Wagih shed light on the third scientific conference for environment and sustainable development, organized by Al-Azhar University which  kicked off on Saturday under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Over the phone to (Breakfast show), he said that being held in Egypt has a prominent significance as our country plays an extraordinary role in the international arena regarding the challenges facing humanity in climate change, hence  Al Azhar is trying various scenarios to overcome difficult matters as those are unprecedented and immense threats in the human history. The conference tackles the impact of pollution on climate and the negative effect of climate change on health, industry, water and agriculture, in addition to the role of greenhouse gas emissions in upping pollution rates and global warming.

He clarified that the three-day conference is chaired by the Grand Imam Ahmad el Tayyeb and attended by Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Egypt’s Mufti Shawky Allam as well as dignitary participants.

He underscored the international role played by Al Azhar in boosting human fraternity among different countries of the world to face Islamophobia and to provide serenity and solidarity worldwide and spread a healthy, communicative pattern based on approach and discourse.

Dr. Wageeh believes there is a real awareness in Egypt regarding climate change as the conference offers an opportunity for probing this challenge and ways of facing it. The event prepares for a UN climate conference that will be hosted by Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh city next year, he concluded.
