Dr Wagih hails Sisi's insightful address at UNGA 76

Dr. Hassan Wagih, a Professor of Political Science, said that the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) is compatible with our shared agenda

Dr. Hassan Wagih, a Professor of Political Science, said that the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) is compatible with our shared agenda for the future as it addressed a major problem for the world which is “climate change”, revealing that President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi in his speech addressed issues of health, human rights and Egypt’s approach concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

He added, in an interview with (To the Point) programme, that the president’s speech clarifies Egypt’s approach and its right to have an agreement based not only on legal rights but also on ethical ones. The message regarding this file is important as it is of a main concern to the Egyptian people, he stressed.

Moreover, Wagih mentioned that Egypt experienced what is called “strategic patience“, exerted a great deal of effort, self-regulation, and did not move according to propaganda and provocations, stressing that we do not want to play the threat games, Egypt is trying to solve it peacefully.

El-Sisi underlined the need to reach a fair solution to the Palestinian cause through negotiations in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions, he said, adding that the UN is very consistent when it comes to previous resolutions mainly adhering to the two states solution.

When it comes to sincere fighting of terrorism, the professor said that Egypt has taken on its own shoulders the fighting of terrorism as no other country has done, believing that Egypt needs sincerity when it comes to this file. He also mentioned Afghanistan as one of the critical issues asking about the way the United Nations is going to deal with the Taliban when most of them are on the terrorist lists.

Finally, Dr. Hassan Wagih referred to the important declaration by the UN and its intention to widen the decision making process by holding two successive summits with the leaders of states next year and the year after. The sessions’ aim is to reformulate the structure of the United Nation itself; to reform and open up the floor for more effective decision making processes. He urged Egypt to prepare itself for participating in such discussions. The 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) opened on Tuesday, 14 September 2021. The General Debate takes place from Tuesday, 21 September to Monday, 27 September 2021, including Saturday, 25 September.
