Hegazy:Unilateral action on GERD jeopardizes security in region

Former Assistant to the Foreign Ministersaid that any unilateral action concerning the filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will have severe consequence

Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, Former Assistant to the Foreign Minister, said that any unilateral action concerning the filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will have severe consequences on the security of the whole region.

Amb. Hegazy mentioned, during a phone conversation with (Arab Affairs) program, that the failure of reaching an agreement threatens not only African countries but also the Gulf countries.

He added that most of the world trade passes by Bab El Mandab Strait , and in case of any escalation, global trade will be negatively affected.

He stressed that Egypt has requested the United Nations Security Council and international community to interfere to reach an agreement on the filling of GERD.

He declared that if the international community lets Ethiopia decide alone on the filling of the dam, other countries as China might follow the steps of Ethiopia's unilateral action and this will be a threat to all watercourse relations worldwide.

He finally pointed out that Egypt has to protect its right of life and source of existence by all possible means.
