Ambassador Gamal Bayoumi, Former Assistant Foreign Minister , said that great changes have happened in the Libyan crisis in the period between Berlin I and Berlin II conference.
Amb. Bayoumi mentioned, during a phone conversation with (Arab Affairs), that some of those changes were positive, such as the success in gathering all Libyan factions to the negotiation table and the formation of a unified government.
He added that there were also many negative aspects that hindered the peace and stability , mainly the increase in the numbers of foreign troops and militias in Libya.
He stressed that after the polls that will take place next December, the elected government will be empowered to ask all the foreign troops to withdraw from Libya.
He pointed out that the mercenaries will continue to be a challenge because they have no other place to go, yet all the European and Mediterranean countries will cooperate to find a solution to this challenge.
Bayoumi finally added that Egypt has played a pivotal role in solving the Libyan crisis since its beginning and will continue this role till Libya returns back as a leading country in the region.
