Head of Public Health Department School of Medicine in Cairo University, Dr. Maisa Sahwky said that there are great leaps in development of the health sector over the past six years as it has been put as a prioritized target on the presidential agenda.
Over the phone to (Daily Debate), she added that health progress is an ongoing project with extensive investment and real presidential follow up to make it happen on earth and make every citizen feel it along the time.
She resumed that her team started with areas contaminated with Hepatitis C virus. They created standardized clinical practice guidelines in Egypt that are so nationalized to match the citizens and thus they succeeded in diagnosing patients and in treating them.
Moreover, they have gone to the extent that the medications of Hepatitis C were customized and manufactured in Egypt and they had reached good targets in reducing the cost for the approach of importing medications. This is a great success on the international platform that other countries are benchmarking success stories in Egypt .
She also shed light on the launching of the Health Insurance System starting with the development of the law and enacting of transforming the governmental hospitals into health insurance ones. The system began in Port Said then moved to other governorates, she illustrated, adding that the expected time to fulfill its launching all over Egypt is much less than the time planned for.
She praised the initiative of “100 Million Health”, launched by the state which has been going on for three years now, so people acted with more positive attitude towards their health and they started to acquire an intelligent listening for the health awareness messages popped through the media.
Dr. Shawky asserted that Egypt faces the challenge of corona with a strong framework of the awareness of people about their health. We are privileged to have a central hospital in each governorate in addition to a fever hospital for isolation and a strong health system dealing with the corona patients.
