Professor and Chair of the department of Educational Leadership Coordination Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Robert Shockley stressed the fact that the teacher is the key to good education. He can make the difference, he declared, that’s why his university started a partnership with the Ministry of Education, he stated.
Hosted by (Breakfast Show), he added that the partnership started 5 years ago, explaining that they are doing “Trainer of Trainers” models and with professional development for teachers.
He explained that “Education First” is a public foundation of which Dr. Salama El Bakry is the CEO. He hailed her visionary and very impactful personality in terms of the changes that have happened leading to a significant impact on the education system in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shockley shed light on the conference they prepared on how to collaborate to move forward and establish goals for the future. He stated that his foundation had accomplished so much: over 10 thousand teachers in Egypt have been trained through this model and over two thousand education principals have also been trained and they are looking for the next.
When they started this partnership they wanted to make something meaningful, something that makes a difference; they were looking forward to making a sustainable job, a commitment to Egypt. Their goal is to make a difference and their message is the quality of the teacher, he reassured.
On the other hand, Professor and assistant director of the International Centre for Communication at Indiana University, Mathew Hume said that the Centre plans programs in new intensive English courses that aim at strengthening the English communication skills of the youth of Egypt and the language skills of the teachers that teach them.
Illustrating, he said they offer intensive training courses for teachers to practice English as a foreign language in a way that aligns with today’s best practices. They also develop a multi-level curriculum for education and communication skills to empower learners, he illustrated.
He added that in February and March they met with 14 teachers to give them professional development in lesson planning and curriculum for English language in terms of teaching grammar and pronunciation in context, and in authentic communicative ways and strategies for group work and collaboration, as well as in materials, creation and adaptation. They had also set an eight level curriculum in oral English communication skills for teachers.
Dr. Hume shed light on the one-day conference they prepared saying that they are celebrating the presence of the Foundation in Egypt and it would be a chance to discuss goals and objectives and is a good opportunity for networking, not only contacting people through zooms.
(Breakfast Show) is aired daily. This episode is presented by Amal Mokhtar.
