Ambassador Ali Hefni, Former Assistant to Foreign Minister, underlined the significant timing of the visit recently paid by President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi to France for attending The Paris Conference hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron aiming to rally support for the Sudanese government in the transition period.
In a phone call with (Breakfast Show), he asserted that Sudan is facing changes and needs economic support from the international community to proceed with that period in a manner that helps the people and government achieve the required goals by the end of that phase.
Hefini said that Egypt has backed Sudanese causes at different international forums to lift Sudan from the left of the terrorist organizations and the critical financial situation prevailing at the current time.
He added that it is relieving to see Sudan is regaining its original and natural place within the international community enjoying normal ties with all different institutions and councils.
The meeting between President e-Sisi and the Head of Sudan’s ruling council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is important, he mentioned, to jointly prepare for that conference and to discuss Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and other regional issues.
The two leaders have affirmed their adhesion to a legally binding deal on the filling and operations of the disputed GERD, amid a stretching deadlock in negotiations with Ethiopia over the dam, and the primary importance of the water issue for both nations as a national security issue.
Financing the African states particularly after Covid-19 crisis is one of the topics discussed in the conference, the ambassador conveyed, adding that Egypt is working with its international partners especially France to bolster the international efforts to achieve economic growth in face of the implications of the pandemic that caused a sort of destabilization in several African countries concerning the health sector.
Hefini referred to various virtual summits attended by President e-Sisi since last year, such as G20 virtual summit and African Union mini virtual summit, where Egypt requested to reschedule the interest of loans presented to the African states. As for The Paris Conference, Egypt contributed to the international initiative to settle Sudan’s debts, he concluded.
(Breakfast Show) is aired daily on Nile TV International and this is a new episode presented by Nermine Abdel Rahman.
