Expert hails projects on Suez Canal as vital economic hub

Dr. Hesham Youssef lauded the Egyptian leadership for its directives to develop the Suez Canal waterway so as to maximize its benefits to Egypt

Project planning expert Dr. Hesham Youssef lauded the Egyptian leadership for its directives to develop the Suez Canal waterway so as to maximize its benefits to Egypt and the whole world.

From U.S. over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), he highlighted the role of our waterway as Egypt has got pressure points on the global trade where the canal accounts for 30% of the world trade shipping containers, thousands of ships pass annually through it and millions of tons go through this passage yearly in addition to 1.9 million barrel of oil and 12% of the world trade route through the suez canal. The blockage of the canal highlighted its importance to the entire world, he highlighted.

He hailed the projects inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi  including the modernizing and the navigation of monitoring stations along the shipping course of the canal in the three cities of Ismailia, Suez and Port Said as part of the digital transformation system. This serves and facilitates the navigation in the waterway, he said.

The expert mentioned the great initiative to upgrade the ports into smart ports and transform activities to digital ones. Upgrading stations in safety and control for the navigation and using systems of artificial intelligence and thermal cameras are very essential to secure the canal, he illustrated.

Further, he praised the new dredger Mohab Mamish which joined the Suez Canal Authority, looking forward to the other one which is expected to join in August. They are of great addition to the smooth running and capability of the canal.

Dr. Youssef added that establishing logistical areas and economic zones are mega projects which convert that area into a trade hub and increase Egypt’s revenues.

Finally, he numbered some aspects needed to maximize the benefits of this vital trade artery and to reduce the time of passing and time of transit.

(Cairo Local Time) is aired on Nile TV International from Sunday to Thursday. This episode is presented by Engy Maher.
