Women empowerment advocate Dr. Mona ElArishi commented on the good economic indicators in the Egyptian economy reflected on the low income brackets, saying that more people are benefiting from the social activities such as the “Takaful and Karama” program and from the focus of bringing culture to everybody in Egypt.
Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), she hailed the role of the presidential initiatives in this regard. The “Decent Life” Initiative served much in raising the living standards of the needy people, she asserted, clarifying that the quality of life is not just about food and high income, but rather about culture, empowerment, education, health insurance, etc. People want to satisfy their basic needs, but immediately after that they should enjoy the cultural projects which elevate the level of enjoyment and the quality of life for the normal citizen, she added.
Dr. Arishi mentioned the role of the non-governmental organizations and the private sector in cooperating and assisting the development of those programs. Her project is about understanding where the gaps are across the country by specific strategies where experts can highlight which area would the NGO and the public sector participate together. Thus, according to her, each ministry would have a sort of assistance, and deliver projects with different NGOs so that they can cover all the gaps and bring prosperity.
She stated that the economy is so much focused on having women playing a bigger role, so the dimensions of women empowerment is not just in one sector or another but it has to happen in all fields. The focus of women now, she remarked, is on how they can have their voice heard and be respected in the society.
She highlighted the role of education and stressed that of the media to enlighten people and elevate girls’ thoughts and ideas about themselves. The youth are taking positions in initiatives, she assured. We have to provide engagement in all directions for our youth population, hence we will be able to bring prosperity to Egypt, she added.
