Expert asserts Egypt’s staunch support for Sudan’s stability

political expert Dr. Raouf Gaafar said that Cairo and Khartoum always have close ties and good relations on all aspects

In the light of the latest historic visit paid by President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi to Sudan, political expert Dr. Raouf Gaafar said that Cairo and Khartoum always have close ties and good relations on all aspects and share many issues. Egypt is backing Sudan the whole way in stability, security and development, he added.

Over the phone to (Africa Today), he hailed the perfect timing of Sisi’s visit to Sudan due to the challenges that face us both such as the frontier turmoil and the Ethiopian GERD menace where Addis Ababa  is forcing a status quo situation, thus Egypt and Sudan try to involve the world community such as the UN, the EU and the African Union to find a solution and sign a binding agreement to safeguard the interest of all countries.

He added that both leaders agreed on the need to resume negotiations to reach a legally binding agreement on the mechanism of filling and operating the Ethiopian dam GERD. Dr.Gaafar commented that because Ethiopia has loads of internal problems whether tribal or ethnic, it should solve first better than be involved in controversies, but their stubbornness is unexplained and unacceptable, yet he believes it will yield to the rights and interests of the others soon.

He also shed light on the joint press conference when our president said that Cairo is keen to strengthen cooperation with Khartoum in all domains especially in this transitional period. This cooperation is important for the two sides, he elaborated, as we complement each other; Sudan is full of natural resources and Egypt is rich in human resources so we have to join our efforts and make use of these resources for the benefit of both countries and for the sake of investments. Sisi said that electronic linking and transportation projects are very essential mega projects, Gaafar reaffirmed.

Finally, he assured that Egypt’s pivotal role in Africa is back, it is not a role but a responsibility.

(Africa Today) is aired daily. This episode is presented by Mahesty Rabei.
