Historian asserts significant secrets of Red Sea through history

Historian Dr. Ismael Hamed underlined the importance of the Red Sea as it goes back to 25 million years ago

Historian Dr. Ismael Hamed underlined the importance of the Red Sea as it goes back to 25 million years ago when the continent was called Gondwanaland and the Arabian peninsula and Africa were one land. He added that the Red Sea is about 2000 kms long and 300 Kms wide and 1000 metres deep, and the mountains around it are red in colour and it compiles many red corals.

Hosted by (Breakfast Show), he explained that ancient Egyptians were the first to explore the Red Sea and what is behind it. King Sezostris connected the sea to the Nile River then to the Mediterranean, he illustrated.

He also stated that the Red Sea is mentioned in all holy books, next to it we have the area of the revelation of God to Prophet Moses, mentioned in the bible and Quran. He shed light on the importance of the geographical and strategic location of the sea as it is considered the heart of the world connecting Africa to Asia, and the Indian ocean to Europe.

Dr. Hamed asserted that the New Suez Canal increased the importance of the Red Sea as it guarantees a short, direct and rapid road for investments and trade, which is a great project for Egypt.  In modern times, he went to elaborate, the Red Sea has become a commercial centre for Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Asia. In the same context, he asserted Egypt is making lots of projects in Sinai as it is also important for tourism and it is a touristic destination as the best place for diving and the government has built many touristic villages along the beaches of the Red Sea.

Supporting his point, he referred to the purity of its water, the amazing depth, the coral reefs varieties of landscape, its close location to Luxor where tourists can visit and watch monuments there then return to the beaches, all these and more made it a preferable destination for tourists.

(Breakfast Show) is aired daily on Nile TV International. This episode is presented by Amal Mokhtar.
