Africa champ: Triathlon tough but interesting

Winner of the gold medal in the triathlon in the African tournament in Morocco, Basmala el Salamony said that she joined triathlon .

Winner of the gold medal in the triathlon (swimming, cycling and running) in the African tournament in Morocco, Basmala el Salamony said that she joined triathlon because she loved it though it is a tough sport. She used to be a swimmer so it was easy for her to start triathlon then found it very interesting.

Interviewed in (Cairo Local Time), she added that triathlon suits her abilities. It needs strength and she had won more than 100 medals in swimming competitions, so she shifted to triathlon at the age of 17 and started taking part in African Cups.

During her training for the contest, she trained well and followed a rehabilitation program to be able to run and cycle with a per-injured recently-cured knee. She followed a healthy life style with a balanced food. She said that triathlon is a sport for all people, they can practice it at any age. She used to train from 20 to 25 hours per day.

Basmala recollected her most significant moments in Morocco saying that the best memory was while hearing the National Anthem. She hopes to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games and get a gold medal. She calls for some support and attention and sponsorship for the young athletes, advising children to join triathlon. She plans to join the Olympics and to be a dentist one day.
