Expert:Rosetta Stone yields secrets of ancient Egypt's glory

Tourism Expert Medhat Murad said that Rosetta stone is the key to the discovery of the hieroglyphic language

Tourism Expert Medhat Murad said that Rosetta stone is the key to the discovery of the hieroglyphic language which is considered as the star of the British museum attracting most of the visitors there. Egypt is celebrating 200 years of decoding ancient hieroglyphs, he stated, underlining the importance of such a piece that depending on it we were able to know more about the history of our ancient Egypt.

In a phone call with (Cairo Local Time), Murad illustrated that if it was not the Rosetta stone, we could not read the ancient Egyptian language and we won’t be able to read what is written on papyrus paper, on the temples’ walls, and inside the tombs; such as the magnificent tomb of Nefertari.

The expert hailed the decision taken by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to open all museums and archaeological sites to visitors free-of-charge, in all governorates nationwide, referring to the thousands who visited the Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids as well as the books fair hosted by the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Manial Palace Museum.

Moreover, Murad noted that the coming period will witness a number of events in Egypt such as the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum as well as the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27) which he believed is a huge comeback to Sharm el-Sheikh. It is free marketing for our beloved country, he said.

It is essential to showcase our different destinations such as the Western Desert, Sinai, Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan and Cairo with its great history, he hinted.

Finally, he referred to the state’s aspiration to increase its tourism revenues to $30 billion annually. “We need to push more for marketing,” he said, adding that tourism is boosting now and we have great numbers of visitors this year, which will exceed even 2019, hoping that next year more tourists will visit Egypt and stressing that we only have to be ready for them.

(Cairo Local Time) is aired from Sunday to Thursday on Nile TV International. This episode is conducted by Nevine Ramzy.
