Professor of Economics Zeinab Nawar highlighted the importance of Egypt’s time-honored relations with the Horn of Africa countries
In the light of President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi’s historic visit to Djibouti, the first of its kind since 1977, Professor of Economics Zeinab Nawar highlighted the importance of Egypt’s time-honored relations with the Horn of Africa countries, Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea, the most strategically important as situated on Bab el-Mandeb Strait. She stressed that Egypt’s security and stability of the African region are interconnected.
In a phone conversation on (Breakfast), she illustrated that Sisi’s meeting with his Djiboutian counterpart Ismail Omar Guelleh was timely significant because of the controversial file with Ethiopia on its $4.6 billion Grand Renaissance Dam. She expressed her hope that Ethiopia will manage its resolutions properly without trespassing on Egypt’s water rights.
Djibouti is also pivotal economically, she added, as it is the shortest trade route between the Mediterranean and Asia. She hailed Egypt’s decision to enter Djibouti’s banking market by establishing the first branch of Banque Misr in the Horn of Africa country.
Nawar concluded that within the framework of its strategy to boost all means of cooperation with African countries, Sisi opened a new era with Africa by making strenuous efforts during Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union to retain the black continent’s wealth and attain development goals to Africa. In that respect, she said that the summit between Sisi and Guelleh encompassed many aspects to forge.
(Breakfast) is aired daily on NileTV International and this episode is presented by Karim Gamal Eddin.
