Dr Sara Salah Serour, culture coordinator at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stressed the importance of the library in disseminating culture in Egypt.

Dr Sara Salah Serour, culture coordinator at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stressed the importance of the library in disseminating culture in Egypt and all over the world. She hailed the greatness of its inauguration day officially on 23 April 2002 in attendance of prominent figures and heads of state, acknowledging the fact that “it is the biggest cultural venue in Egypt”.

During an interview on (Women’s World), she commended the great efforts of the library’s director Mostafa al-Feki and his keenness in line with the political leadership to empower women. It is a well-organized and well-maintained place organizing diversified activities, she said, adding that it consists of well-equipped conference halls with a capacity of 1600 people. It is also distinguished with various art museums, research centers, concert halls and temporary and permanent exhibits, she highlighted.

Commenting on the library and its great impact, she mentioned that it received 200,000 visitors per year but lately, due to the global pandemic COVID-19, the number descended to 40000 per year, and that comes in the strong belief that it has great cultural foundations in history.

Serour declared the library is working in full swing while observing the safety precautions required to contain the coronavirus. She touched upon the vital role of women in life and said that many female stories of success are displayed in the private department for women under the umbrella of the Academic Research Sector by Dr Marwa el Wakeel and Dr Maha Moaaz. Further, she stressed the great influence of soft power and how it sorts out many problems.

About donations to the library, she gave an example of France contributing with a half million books, she reassured, referring to the world’s acknowledgment of the library’s essential icon of knowledge in the whole world.

(Women’s World) is aired Monday on Nile TV International and presented by Hala El Hamalwy. It is prepared by Amal Abdel Wahab and directed by Shireen Eraki..
