Dr. Farouk El Hakim, Member of the Arab Council of Sustainable Energy, said that solar energy comes in the front of different sources of renewable energy.
Dr. El Hakim mentioned, during a phone conversation with (Breakfast Show) program, that Egypt occupies the fourth place globally in terms of the largest plants to generate electricity from solar energy, after the operation of the Benban solar plant in Aswan.
He added that the Benban solar plant supports the national grid by producing around 2000 Megawatts of electricity, which makes it equivalent to the energy produced by the High Dam.
Further, Hakim pointed out that this project helped in creating more than 10,000 job opportunities for Egyptians, mainly youth, working as engineers, technicians,in administrative tasks and many workers.
He noted that this project is a good example for the cooperation of the government and the private sector, adding that the government provided many facilities and incentives for the private sector to participate in mega projects which attracted many investments.
Finally, he stressed the importance of depending on clean renewable energy such as solar and wind energy instead of the old methods of using fossil fuel in order to save our environment from the negative repercussions of climate change.
