Dr. Amr Atef, Travel Expert, PHD in Heritage and Museum Studies, said that the Nile River is the cause of life for Egyptians throughout history, it is the center of their social, economic and cultural activities.
Dr. Atef mentioned, during an interview with (Nile Cruise) program, that the word Nile comes from the Greek word (Neilos) which means land of victory.
He pointed out that the famous Greek historian Herodotus said that "Egypt is the gift of the Nile", and this is true because without the Nile, there would not have been such a prosperous civilization in Ancient Egypt.
He added that the Ancient Egyptians associated the Nile with different gods, such as the god Habi, that controls the flood in their cult, and also the god Osiris who was killed by his envious brother Set and cut into 42 pieces that was thrown in the Nile .
The expert added that Ancient Egyptians considered polluting the Nile a grand sin that every deceased will be punished for after his resurrection.
He noted that Ancient Egyptians celebrated in appreciation of the Nile , they used to give charities , animal sacrifices and many offerings and sing and dance imploring for the fertility of their land.
Finally, Atef said that throwing a beautiful girl in the Nile to invoke the floods is a myth that was not known except in medieval times.
