Ambassador Mohamed El Orabi, Former Foreign Minister, said that Senegalese President Macky Sall's visit to Cairo, before assuming the African Union Presidency, reflects the historical role that Egypt plays in Africa.
Ambassador Orabi mentioned, during a phone conversation with (Arab Affairs) program, that the Senegalese President wanted to benefit from the Egyptian experience that was clear during its chairmanship of the AU in 2019 .
He added that President Sisi discussed with his Senegalese counterpart many topics of mutual concern, on top of them, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), stressing that the African countries can help in achieving an agreement concerning (GERD) if the Ethiopian side has the political will for that.
He pointed out that Egypt has many investments in Senegal and many other African countries, especially in the fields of construction and infrastructure, and both countries are keen to bolster cooperation in new sectors as well.
He finally declared that the Senegalese President's visit to Cairo came after another visit from the Algerian President, and that reflects the continuous efforts of Egypt and African countries to face the challenges that encounter the continent and especially in the Sahel region.
(Arab Affairs) program is presented by Mona Moselhey.
