Dr Arishi: Women prove competent in physics

Member of the Council of Women Leaders Dr. Mona Arishi hailed women’s successful achievements at the scientific level

Member of the Council of Women Leaders Dr. Mona Arishi hailed women’s successful achievements at the scientific level, praising the young scientist called Elham Fadali in the field of physics. She said that Fadali achieved a record in what they call STEM, which is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The success in physics, one of the most difficult paths in STEM, is a real achievement, she highlighted.

Over the phone to (Cairo Local Time), she mentioned some challenges facing women in achievement in the science section, yet the research area is one of the areas that lots of women excel in. Asserting her point, Arishi noted that enabling the research to accommodate women’s timeline like working from home, which is a new norm nowadays, will help a lot of young ladies continue in that dimension. Once we have more research, the Egyptian universities will be highly rated, she added.

She called for supporting women who want to pursue their career or further their education through providing facilities , encouraging them academically and even while working in companies. They should be encouraged to do further research, she reaffirmed, as it can be an area where we can really increase the incentive for the company and the lady to do so.

According to her, men and women working from home are not competing on the hours they spend but on the quality they deliver, so it is a positive point for those who really work hard, she stated.

Arishi explained that the idea is to increase the skill base, increase their employment at large, and have more production. “We want to have a plus rather than an ore”, she said, asserting that by having the best jobs for the best fit whether men or women, “ we are increasing the work skills”.

She assured that women have a very big role to play in the challenge of population. But first, Arishi illustrated, they need holistic education which can be between 18 and 25 years old in a way to  enable them to think positively about the plan of their life and the quality of their children. They have a proactive role in family planning: choosing the right partner and agreeing on their life plan together, and not having so many children, she concluded.

(Cairo Local Time) is aired from Sunday to Thursday. This episode is presented by Engy Maher.
