Director highlights events of Cairo International Film Festival

Film Director Waheed Mekhmar said that Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF)

 Film Director Waheed Mekhmar said that Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) is one of the most influential film festivals in the Middle East. It promotes film industry in Egypt and links workers in the field of cinema from different cultures.

Mekhmar mentioned, in an interview with (Nile Cruise) programme, that CIFF is the oldest cultural festival in the Arab World and Africa. It was launched in 1976 by the critic Kamal El-Mallakh to be a meeting point for writers, producers, directors and movie stars, he elaborated.

 He declared that Cairo International Film Festival‘s 41st session is dedicated to CIFF former director Youssef Cherif Rizkallah. The festival screened a documentary marking the life journey of Rizkallah.

Further, he lauded the CIFF’s president Mohamed Hefzy for his efforts to boost the importance of the festival, through hosting more films and more stars.

He stressed upon giving priority to the quality of the films participating in the festival rather than the quantity, and giving extra attention to the new generation’s talented actors through providing them with workshops to improve their talents and experience.
