Former assistant foreign minister Ambassador Hussein Hareidy shed light on the importance of the latest visit by Rwandan president Paul Kagame to Egypt, remarking his successful tenure in developing his country and achieving a distinguished progress.
Over the phone to (Africa Today), he stressed that Egypt and Rwanda have historical ties and Egypt had supported Rwanda in its struggle for independence. This visit opens a new chapter of the relations with Kigali, he added.
He said that during the visit, Cairo tackled the Ethiopian Dam negotiations rejecting any unilateral measure and stressing on the necessity to reach a legal and binding agreement. He stated that it is important to seek a joint stance in this regard, declaring that Egypt works for the welfare of the whole continent that’s why it works with the African countries and Ethiopia to find a satisfactory solution to the existing differences concerning the dam.
His Excellency added that the two sides agreed to coordinate stances on regional issues of mutual concern as there are common challenges that are facing both countries such as the economic crisis and the fallout of the Ukraine war on food security and energy. Promoting trade relations and boosting economic partnerships top the agenda of the talks in order to meet the repercussions of the Covid-19 and increase the volume of trade among African states.
He assured that Egypt has a lot of experience in the infrastructure sector and it will share its experience with other African countries based on new methods, new techniques and new technologies in addition to the use of information technology across Africa through an ambitious program in the African Union implementing the infrastructure development.
