Professor at the Faculty of Medicine Dr. Gamila Nasr said that there are amazing efforts in improving the health sector in Egypt. There is a new concept which is preventing diseases through the “100 million health initiatives” that covered millions of Egyptians.

Hosted by (Daily Debate), she explained that Egyptians die from chronic diseases so the state is taking care of prevention rather than cure. The new pharmaceutical city is a landmark as it serves the people and the country, she added. Further, she highlighted that Egypt can prevail by manufacturing drugs to offer them at affordable prices and also export them.

The medical city is going to be a research hub as well, she reaffirmed, referring that the management and prevention of diseases are going through with guidelines based on clinical trials to be able to lead in the Middle East and Africa. Egypt will produce the components of the drugs instead of just importing them, she said.

In that respect, Dr Nasr assured that there is real cooperation between the state and the private sector as they integrate to achieve enormous steps. The international pharmaceutical companies will be keen to cooperate with the government in the medicine city as this project will provide drugs with affordable prices, and they also will be sure that their drugs will be available in the Egyptian, African and Arab markets, she said.

Dr. Nasr stated that the president focused on manufacturing oncology drugs for chronic patients as the drugs are so expensive and those patients need brand or original form as they don’t respond to generic forms. She declared that Egypt targeted launching a production factory for plasma containing antibodies for many diseases by the end of 2022 to ensure rapid recovery. 

Mentioning the Corona virus vaccine, she said that it improves the state of the disease, ameliorates its effect on health, decreases its severity and the patient will be less liable to be put on a ventilator. She stressed on raising the awareness of the community and its immunity through the vaccine to decrease the number of patients and eliminate the disease.

She stated that many elderly people as well as people having chronic diseases had been vaccinated.

Professor Nasr gave special care to precautionary measures mentioning an important European cardiology prevention equation which says 035 140 530. It means that people who stay healthy tend to have certain characteristics: zero stands for no smoking, 3 for walking three kms/day or 30 minutes practicing any moderate activity, 5 one has to eat five vegetables and fruits/day, 140 stands for hypertension, 5/3 stands for lipid profile and zero means low prevention of diabetes and obesity, hence if all adopt this equation 035 140 530, the whole population will be healthy.

It is pertinent to mention that President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi has lately inaugurated the Pharma city or Medicine city in the Khanka area located in the Nile Delta region covering 180.000 square metres. It is one of the largest of its kind in the Middle East, equipped with the latest technologies and global systems in drug production. The medicine city was established with the aim of increasing cooperation between the state and the private sector in order to transform the country into a regional centre for pharmaceuticals that will attract major international companies in the field of pharmaceutical and vaccine industries.
