Egypt ensures high security in line with digital transformation

In light of President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi’s inspection of the secured and smart documents complex located on the Cairo-Ain Sokhna road.

In light of President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi’s inspection of the secured and smart documents complex located on the Cairo-Ain Sokhna road, Dr. Abdel Wahab Ghoneim, a vice chairman of Arab Federation of Digital Economy, said that the inauguration of the complex is part of Egypt’s digital transformation initiative.

The giant technology fortress uses high technology for producing 2D and 3D holographic images, which are used for securing all types of documents, Ghoneim mentioned during an interview on (The Daily Debate), adding that it has the latest technical potentials in issuing all governmental documents at the highest security level, such as educational certificates, passports, IDs and bank cards.

The aim of the project is to create some form of a digital transformation where we will have some sort of centralized system for the entire governance of Egypt, he said, pointing that the main challenge is the security; how to secure this data and to keep private most of the documents as birth certificate, court documents, all state contracts and transactions.

We have collaborated with the government now, Dr. Ghoneim revealed, where all databases are shared by all ministries and even the Central Bank. By using any smart card as credit, debit or ID cards, you are really using the government entities, he said, adding that new Egyptian banknotes will be printed there using highly secured papers, barcodes and watermarks.

The digital expert stressed that Egypt is now moving from a very traditional stage to a highly technological one as by using artificial intelligence, smart cards, big data analytics, you are moving to the fourth industrial revolution which needs extreme security measures.

Finally Dr. Abdel Wahab Ghoneim pointed out that the complex is not only one project, it encompasses simultaneous projects with a lot of factories and systems for issuing identity cards, passports, money smart cards, unified service cards, and plastic products in addition to the world’s largest factory for secured paper.

The secured and smart documents complex, the largest in the Middle East and Africa will contribute to curbing forgery and smuggling, reducing public treasury losses and protecting the rights of the state and citizens.
