Professor of international relations Hassan Wagih shed light on the significance of the 23rd of July Revolution, saying that President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi addressed the nation and delivered a speech to mark its 70th anniversary.
Over the phone to (Breakfast Show), he underlined that the revolution has changed the life of Egypt and the whole region as the flags of freedom and independence rose above most of the Arab and African countries following it.
He added that the 23rd of July Revolution has built the first Republic which leads to the establishment of Egypt’s New Republic nowadays. We are following the six principles of that revolution, applying them and operationalizing them. The principles of the July 23 Revolution are: the elimination of feudalism, decolonization, the elimination of capitalism’s control over the government, establishing a strong national army, establishing social justice and establishing democracy.
Dr. Wageeh elaborated that Egypt has had the favour of escalating decolonisation in other countries which led to the end of the foreign occupation. The revolution had adopted an urbanisation program that had a great positive impact on the Egyptian economy.
He assured that democracy is a cornerstone which has to be pursued despite challenges. President Sisi’s directives continue the relationship between the first republic and the New Republic. Illustrating his point, he stated that the Egyptian army is the army of the people and the revolution of the Free Officers was called the white revolution because no single dot of blood was shed.
Further, he shed light on the Egyptians' life before and after the revolution in 1952 and how life became much better due to nationalising economic sources as when Late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal to build the High Dam which saved Egypt a lot of trouble.
He also pointed to the non–aligned movement led by the three presidents Joseph Tito of Yugoslavia, Nehro of India and Nasser. President Sisi has mentioned those leaders when he visited Serbia, he concluded.
